TIFTON — Local social service nonprofit PLIGHT, Inc. brought the community together over breakfast and important values on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The organization hosted its annual breakfast Monday to help residents of the Tiftarea celebrate the holiday and remind them of the legacy and mission of the man the day is named for.

Clara Love Gray, an organizer, reported that the nonprofit had been hosting the breakfast event since 2003, and was eager to have it return this year under the theme of “freedom, justice, and democracy in the spirit of nonviolence.”

Patrons were invited to sit down bright and early Monday morning for a hearty breakfast, pleasant conversation, and the company of their community.

Local leader Tremayne Graydon, a licensed counselor, therapist, and founder of Recapture Life Counseling and Consulting, served as guest speaker in supporting the themes of the event, delivering a presentation on our personal freedoms, how we choose to exact them, and the importance of surrounding ourselves with the proper community.

Following this, organizers invited Fran Kinchen-Moss, a member of PLIGHT, up to receive the Spirit of Service Award honoring her tireless work in supporting and aiding her community.

Gray expressed immense satisfaction with the proceedings of the event once the breakfast had wrapped up, particularly impressed with the massive turnout and Graydon’s dynamic and involved manner of speaking.

She reported that PLIGHT aimed to discuss their plan of action for next year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day Breakfast during their summit meeting, to be held over the summer.
