VALDOSTA — With the coldest days of January in front of them, Tift County High’s basketball teams are on fire.

Tift finished the weekend with a sweep of Region 1-6A Valdosta. The Lady Devils exploded for a 62-38 win, with the Blue Devils evening their region mark to 2-3 after 47-34 victory.

Jalaya Miller had 12 first-quarter points and Mackenzie Holliday scored eight as the Lady Devils raced out to a 24-5 lead. Even 13 points in the second period did not help Valdosta as Tift was up 31-18 at halftime.

Four Lady Devils finished in double figures in points: Miller at 19, Holliday with 10 and Jaziyah Johnson and Amiya Jordan each with 10. Tift is now 2-3 in the region.

Tift’s Blue Devils won their 13th of the year and, after falling in their first two region contests, have jumped into second place with a 3-2 mark. Colquitt County, who Tift beat Friday night, is in first place at 5-1.

J.J. Lamar scored 13 Saturday, the latest in a string of big games from the senior. Cordell Nelson had 10 points and Kaden Lawson tallied 7.

Tift County has no Region 1-6A scheduled this week. Their only game is Saturday, the Hall of Fame game against Sumter County.
