TIFTON — Snow is turning into a kid’s best friend. School is being canceled across the area for Thursday, with Tift County, Tiftarea Academy, Cook County, Berrien County, Worth County, Irwin County and Ben Hill County announcing closures, as well as Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Turner County said it was still assessing conditions Wednesday afternoon. Irwin County will have a virtual learning day.

“After communicating with Tift County EMA regarding current road conditions, the amount of snow received through the county and the freezing temperatures expecting this evening, Tift County Schools will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 23,” said the system on social media.

Only essential operations employees will be asked to come in for work at Tift.

School activities are also canceled for Thursday. Tift County’s region swim meet has been pushed to Monday, according to an announcement by head coach Ivey Vickers.
