TIFTON — Georgia State Patrol officers are actively seeking the vehicle and driver involved in a fatal hit and run that occurred Jan. 23.
Tift 911 received a report around 8:49 p.m. that evening that a pedestrian, identified as Tifton resident Johnnie McKinnon, 81, was struck by a white Dodge Durango while attempting to cross Fifth Street near South Davis Avenue. State Patrol reports that the Durango circled around and stopped near the accident scene before leaving and not returning.
McKinnon was struck by three additional vehicles while lying in the roadway. Only one — a white Chevrolet Silverado driven by an Enigma man — stopped at the scene.
An ambulance transported McKinnon to Tift Regional Medical Center for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team H is actively investigating the case.
