TIFTON — The lavish landscapes and stunning portraits of local artist Minnie G. Brown are now on display at the Syd Blackmarr Arts Center.

In her first solo exhibition, “For the Love of Art,” Brown has partnered with the Tifton Arts Council to compile a collection of her works and share with the guests of the Syd her love of the world and people around her through the medium of her paintings.

Depicting scenes of fields and farmland around her home or her children at various stages throughout their life, captured through Brown’s magnificent, realistic stylings, the paintings of the exhibit showcase the artist’s attention to detail and appreciation for the simple beauty among those close to them or just by looking out a window.

“Whatever I see that interests me, because of the lighting or whatever reason, that’s what I paint,” Brown said.

The local artist has been painting for around 50 years, her works decorating various churches in the area as well as on display among the artwork of the Citizens Art Collection at City Hall. The art featured in this exhibit is taken from her own personal collection, assembled from her home and studio for residents of Tifton to observe and enjoy.

Brown considers the exhibit to be a fine look back at all she’s done and painted across her career.

“It’s a nice time in my life to have this done,” she said. “It’s a retrospective of the last 50 years of my artwork.”

The exhibit will be on display at the Syd Wednesdays through Sundays from 2 to 6 p.m. until Feb. 15. Additionally, Brown is expected to take part in a demonstration with her art class, followed by a gallery talk, Feb. 5. For more information, visit the Tifton Council for the Arts at tiftonarts.org.
