TIFTON — Officers of the Tift County Sheriff’s Office have arrested and released an 18-year-old charged with involvement in an altercation the evening of Feb. 6 as the investigation into the matter continues.

John Michael White of Omega, 18, was charged Feb. 11 with a count of aggravated battery resulting from an incident following a baseball scrimmage at Tiftarea Academy the prior Thursday evening.

Following the conclusion of the game as players of both teams lined up for post-game handshakes, a player from one team allegedly punched a member of the opposing team. The victim was taken to Tift Regional Medical Center, where they were met by a deputy of the Tift County Sheriff’s Office dispatched in response to the altercation and filed an incident report with them.

White was released from jail the same day as his arrest.

The Sheriff’s Office has reported that prosecution for the case has not yet begun.
