TIFTON — Camden County won a pair of soccer matches at Tift County Friday night. The Wildcats opened up what had been a close game with the Blue Devils, 4-0; the Lady Devils scored late in a 5-1 decision.
Tift teams host Lowndes Tuesday in more Region 1-6A matches. The Devils are still looking for their first region win of the season, while the Lady Devils will be out to even their record at 2-2.
The Lady Wildcats had a 4-0 lead at halftime. Tift played the second half much more evenly.
After the score went to 5-0, Isabella Martinez helped get the Lady Devils going with a steal and shot. Jordyn Shivers soon ran down a long pass from keeper Marely Cruz, beating Camden defenders and scoring in the left side of the net at 4:26.
CAMDEN 4, DEVILS 0
A goal Camden scored at 38:38 in the first period nearly stood all match.
Braylon Samuel made saves on a couple of early corner kicks and the match was mostly played at midfield for the rest of the opening half.
Offsides kept the Blue Devils from potentially cashing in on a break by Jordan Lopez. Lopez and Brock Harden had shots saved when Tift got its offense nearer the net.
Omar Acosta had a free kick on frame early in the second half, but it too was saved, as Lopez off a nice pass from Harden.
Camden’s other three goals game in a eight-minute spurt, beginning with 13:16 left on the clock.
