TIFTON — Tift County tennis teams split at Richmond Hill Thursday. Fresh off second-place finishes at their Macon tournament, the Blue Devils won 3-2 but the Lady Devils fell by the same score.

Elijah Hellman and Joshua Hellman won singles matches for Tift, along with Matt Layfield and Seth Denham in doubles. Josh Hellman won by 7-5, 7-5 sets, and Elijah Hellman had a quick 6-1, 6-2 win. Denham and Layfield also made short work in a 6-4, 6-1 finish.

Maitrey Patel fell 4-6, 3-6. Adam Beck and Jack Medina won the first set 6-4, but fell 3-6, 0-6 in the other two.

The Lady Devils won with Sutton Sheppard and Abby Lupo. Lupo barely fell in the first, 6-9 before coming back with 6-3, 6-2 sets. Sheppard needed only two sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Both Tift doubles teams almost gave them a win, but fell in their third sets.

Perrin Turner and Anna Lupo had set scores of 4-6, 6-1, 3-6, while Kenyaria Morrow and Kate Carpenter had scores of 6-4, 4-6, 3-6.

In singles, Riley Griffin dropped a 1-6, 2-6 match.

Tennis travels to First Presbyterian Day on Monday before hosting Cook on Tuesday. FPD will come to Tifton on Thursday.
