TIFTON — Cross your fingers, Tift Countians. The weather may allow for the Anthony Bateman Invitational track meet to take place Saturday.
Early in the week, the rain situation looked dire for the meet, but the most recent forecast has been much more hopeful. Saturday is predicted to be cloudy, but the rain might hold off until that evening. Temperatures are expected to be in the 50s at the start, but will rise into the 70s.
Admission is $5. Tift County has a clear bag policy for fans. The meet will begin around 9:30 a.m. with field events. The first track event will be at 9:45 with the girls 3,200-meter run.
Currently, 14 teams have signed up for the Anthony Bateman Invitational, including the hosts. Among those promising to appear are Lowndes, Valdosta, Berrien, Cook, Turner County, Coffee and Lee County. Bradwell Institute, which hails from the coast, is the most distant school signed up.
