Tiftarea falls in doubleheader

CHULA — Tiftarea Academy dropped a nontraditional doubleheader Friday, taking on both John Milledge Academy and Brookstone.
The Panthers fell to the Trojans, 4-2 in eight innings. It was a 2-2 contest after seven frames. Winston Lamb had started and went five innings, striking out five. Jacob Joyner took over for the remainder, working very efficiently. Neither Tiftarea hurler gave up an earned run.
John Jackson, Jackson Parrish and William Garner each had two hits.
Parrish’s third-inning double plated Jackson for the game’s first run. After the visiting Trojans scored two in the fifth, Tiftarea squared it when Garner singled in Parrish in the bottom half.
The Brookstone game ended in five frames with the visitors from Columbus ahead 13-1.
Brookstone scored in every inning and had a 5-0 lead when the Panthers posted their lone run. Lamb and Jackson Gray had two hits apiece. Ridley Monk drove in Gray.
The Panthers were scheduled to visit Westfield Tuesday. Their next game is set for Thursday against the Hornets at 6 p.m.
Tiftarea will open region next week with a home game against Valwood.
