MONTGOMERY, Ala. – ABAC Pitcher Trypp Lumpkin has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Lumpkin, a junior from Ellaville, had his best outing of the season for the Stallions last week in an SSAC matchup with Loyola University in New Orleans. Lumpkin pitched six innings, allowing only three hits and one earned run while striking out 10. ABAC won the game 4-3 in 10 innings.

The Schley County alum has been the Stallions’ number one starter this year and leads the team in strikeouts with 38 over six starts.

Lumpkin is the first Stallion baseball player to win the SSAC weekly award this year and only the second ABAC athlete to garner a Player of the Week award this year. Sophomore Shakiria Chaney won the Player of the Week award for ABAC’s women’s basketball team in November.

ABAC is the newest member of the conference, joining the SSAC in July while moving up to the NAIA division. The Stallion baseball team is 15-7 overall and tied for fourth in the SSAC at 7-5. ABAC will be on the road for a three-game series with Faulkner University in Montgomery beginning on Friday.
