RICHMOND HILL — Tift County’s 11-game baseball winning streak came to a halt Wednesday at the bats of Richmond Hill. The Wildcats walked off a 3-2 victory.
It was a pitcher’s duel all the way. Richmond Hill scored single runs in the second and third and the Blue Devils did the same in the third and fourth.
John Davis pitched a complete game. He gave up one earned run, his first of the year, but struck out 13. It was the first earned run surrendered by Davis this season and only the second he has given up in region games over the past two seasons.
Walker Brannen turned a leadoff walk in the second into a run, when a bunt by Will Pridgen was mishandled.
After the Wildcats regained the lead in the bottom half of the third, Tift tied it again in the fourth.
Brannen figured in again with a sacrifice fly, which plated Sam Pritchard.
The Blue Devils mustered but three hits in Richmond Hill, one each by Davis, Pritchard and Mac Brooks.
Combined with Colquitt County’s win Tuesday over Lowndes, the Packers currently lead Region 1-6A with a 4-0 record. Tift and Lowndes are 3-1. Richmond Hill will be in town Friday for a doubleheader that starts at 4:30 p.m.
