Cleghorn wins four times, Panthers also winners at track meet

CHULA — Tiftarea Academy  hosted a track meet March 19 at the Sarge Dorsey Track, with several Panthers and Lady Panthers excelling at the eight-team event.

Tiftarea’s boys were first overall, according to official results. THe Panthers scored an even 100 points, 17 better than second-place Southwest Georgia Academy. Grace Christian was third at 63. The Lady Panthers earned fourth with 55 points, trailing Southwest Georgia (117), Fullington Academy (98) and Terrell Academy (75).

Track teams are scheduled to be back on their own track Wednesday for another meet.

Peyton Cleghorn’s Wednesday was nothing short of amazing. She was a quadruple first-place winner. Cleghorn swept hurdles (100 and 300) and flashed the speed to win the 100 and 200.

Temond Marcus won twice individually March 19, showing his strength and speed as the events were the shot put and the 200 meters. Marcus also turned in second place in the 100-meter dash.

Marcus was second in the 100 to his teammate, Caden Grier. Grier also won triple jump and was fourth in long jump.

Grier and Marcus were half of Tiftarea’s winning 4×100 team, along with Kaiden Richardson and J.R. Walker. Walker won as an individual in the 400.

Pierce Fulp had a part in two second places. Fulp was second in the 1,600 and was one leg of the runner-up 4×400 team with Parker Pope, Ridley Monk and McKay.

Sam Faircloth earned fourth in discus, with Parker Hobbs placing fifth. Andrew Connell was sixth in the 800 run.

Besides Cleghorn’s heroics, the Lady Panthers had a third-place from Raelyn Owens in shot put. Cloe Sercer was fourth in the 100 hurdles and seventh in shot put. Taylor Nolin earned seventh in the 200.
