VALDOSTA — Tift County soccer returned from its spring break Tuesday in a big way, recording two wins over Valdosta at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. The Lady Devils had an early night, winning 10-0. The Blue Devils won 2-1, with head coach Bobby Earls calling the win as dramatic as their first over the Wildcats.
Valdosta scored 15 minutes into the game, a lead that held through the half. Tift County tied it, said Earls, in the second when Brock Harden scored on a penalty kick.
The Devils got their lead courtesy of a newcomer. Osiel Cruz, a freshman recently promoted to varsity, netted a goal in the 77th minute. Cristian Salazar had the assist.
“We held on from there,” said Earls. Braylon Samuel faced only five shots all night.
LADY DEVILS 10, VALDOSTA 0
Valdosta entered having only scored one goal all season. Tift kept it that way.
Sigrid Martinez had yet another hat trick, said head coach Irvin Alvarez. Others came from Amy Deleon, Jordyn Shivers, Nathaly Rivera, Kyli Garretson, Aaliyah Rodriguez, Carina Gomez, plus one from Diana Reducindo.
Hours after signing with Middle Georgia State, the Lady Devils goalkeeper put a goal through the net herself.
Tift is scheduled to travel to Ware County on Thursday.
