TIFTON — Residents of Tifton are set to have a whole basketful of egg hunt events to enjoy this weekend.
Several local organizations have announced plans for egg hunts and other associated activities starting April 12, inviting Tifton families to come out and celebrate Easter with a host of fun events and games.
Festivities will kick off Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with the Egg Drop and Wellness Hop, a collaborative program between the Tift County Recreation Department and Southwell. Meant as a refit of the Recreation Department’s Community Care Day, the event will see hundreds of eggs dropped out of a plane for the children in attendance to gather up while also promoting community wellness.
Local vendors and organizations will be taking part in the event, adding to the celebration through food and games or, in line with the event’s original intent, providing health and wellness resources. Younger guests are encouraged to take on a scavenger hunt that will bring them to meet with each vendor, completing a map as they go and earning a prize for a fully completed chart.
Patrons of the event are encouraged to meet with the vendors and enjoy the festivities in the lead-up to the egg drop, which will take place at 11 a.m.
Later that afternoon, the Tifton Fire Department plans to hold its own egg hunt from 2 to 4 p.m. at Fulwood Park, scattering eggs around the park for Tifton’s youths to find. In addition to food, games, and Easter Bunny photos, the event is set to have a fire truck, fire safety house, and police officers on the scene.
The Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its first Easter egg hunt as a week-long competition, enlisting several of their chamber members to hide eggs all over Tifton.
Participating businesses will have eggs hidden either in or around their stores, inviting community members to seek them out for a chance at winning a grand prize gift basket with items from all chamber members taking part in the event.
Each egg found will count as one entry into the raffle for the grand prize. Interested egg hunters can only receive this entry by taking a photo of each egg they find, posting the photo to Facebook in a public post, and tagging both the business where the egg was found and the chamber. The Chamber of Commerce has asked that participating residents return any eggs they find to the location they were found in.
This egg hunt will go from April 12 to April 18. The locations of the participating businesses are set to be revealed Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m.
Central Jewelry will also be hosting its own self-contained easter egg hunt April 18, though, in a change of pace, with only a handful of eggs actually available to hunt.
Intended as a celebration of Good Friday, the jeweler plans to hide only three eggs throughout Downtown Tifton, promising a diamond cross necklace to each person who locates one of them. The business plans to post clues to their Facebook page in the week leading up to the event to help egg hunters better locate their prize.
