Tift’s Diamond Wallace sets new mark in long jump

TIFTON — Diamond Wallace entered her name into the record books Wednesday, as Tift County held its last home track meet and celebrated its seniors.
Head coach J.C. Clark said Wallace’s long jump of 17-10 broke a record. Wallace won the event by more than three feet.
Wednesday was a true quad meet for Tift as only three other teams participated: Dooly County, Fitzgerald and Lanier County.
Shurrod Rich and Dezmond McWhorther were 1-2 in the 100, Rich’s time at 11.08 seconds. Marshall Howard and Jordan Gaskins achieved the same in the 200, Howard in 22.89 seconds.
A trio of 10th grades were quickest in the 400 — Ja’Quaywinn Pettiford first in 52.53 and Myron McTear and Josiah Johnson behind him. The 800 was even more stacked with Anthony Falotico, Henry Anderson, William Maxwell and Russ Benton 1-4. Falotico ran in 2:15.
Falotico additionally won the 1,600 in 5:07. William Tyre was second. Jeremiah Rich won the 110 hurdles in 16.55 seconds and Cnardarian Walker was second. The 300 hurdles went to Jordan Gaskins in 41.2 seconds. Tyrique Wallace was second and Walker finished third.
Bailey Brock was a two-time winner, in the 800 and 1,600. Brock’s 2:48 gave her first over teammate Emmalyn Lukas in the former and Brock ran the 1,600 in 6:07 to finish ahead of Lola Reynolds.
Nairobi Graham won twice, too. Graham won the 200 in 25.16 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 45.72. Aziyah Lockett was second in the 300 hurdles.
Jamari Johnson cleared 6-4 to win high jump. McTear and Jarvis Howard joined him in the top three. Ario Wilson went 21-5 to win long jump. Royal Scott was second. Latravean Lockett won triple jump at 39-5.
Skye Perry won the 100 hurdles in 18.15 seconds. Debraysia Doward threw 89-1 to win discus. Akele Brown was runner-up.

— Boys 1,600: Owen Davies (4th), Kason Horner (5th) and Hatcher Swanson (7th).
— Boys 4×100: 1st in 42.57 seconds.
— Boys discus: Jamison Akins (2nd), Rylan Pearman (4th), Cayden Dawson (7th) and Mason Montesano (8th).
— Boys long jump: Jamari Turner (4th), Josiah Johnson (5th) and McWhorther (6th).
— Girls long jump: Vaniya Golson (3rd) and Nahla Evans (4th).
