Four Tiftarea athletes win at track meet

CHULA — Peyton Cleghorn, J.R. Walker, Jasmine Olson and Temond Marcus all picked up wins Thursday for Tiftarea Academy at its Invitational.

Marcus won the shot put with a heave of 47-11, six feet better than any other competitor. He also placed second in the 200 meters in 24.04 seconds

Walker won the 400 in 54.14 seconds, two seconds ahead of second place. He was second in discus at 110-4.

Cleghorn kept up her outstanding work in the hurdles, winning both events. She won the 100 in 16.64 seconds, more than a second ahead of the runner-up, and the 300 in 48.74. Cleghorn’s 13.24 seconds in the 100-meter dash was one-tenth of a second behind first place.

Olson earned a victory in triple jump in 31-7.5 and was second in long jump.

Also finishing in the top eight for Tiftarea were:

— Boys 100: Reed Jackson (7th).

— Girls 100 hurdles: Sercer (7th).

— Boys 110 hurdles: Hayden Matthews (2nd) and Seth Royal (4th).

— Boys 300 hurdles: Sam Faircloth (4th).

— Boys 800: Andrew Connell (6th).

— Boys 1,600: Pierce Fulp (6th).

— Boys 3,200: Braydon Beawdin (4th).

— Girls 4×100: 8th.

— Boys 4×400: 6th.

— Boys discus: Faircloth (5th).

— Boys high jump: Parker Pope (4th).

— Boys long jump: Royal (6th).

— Girls long jump: Kate Phillips (7th).

— Boys shot put: Colton Powell (6th).

— Boys triple jump: Caden Grier (4th), Hunter Monk (6th) and Connell (8th).
