Veterans sweeps in final Tift soccer games of season

TIFTON — Tift County soccer finished its season Thursday evening falling in both games to visiting Veterans.
Scores were 2-0 in the girls game and 5-1 in the boys.
The Blue Devils scored with 19:26 to go in the game, a goal by Oscar Peña Martinez.
The Lady Devils played close, down 1-0 at the break. The had a handful of second-half opportunities, including one that saw Bailey Vice barely offsides. Veterans scored its second goal late in the contest.
Head coach Bobby Earls had been hoping for a closer match for his guys, but the Warhawks’ superior experience won out. Many of their players are on club teams, Earls said.
Braylon Samuel had two marvelous saves within seconds of one another off Veterans corner kicks in the first half. Cristian Salazar was wide on a Tift attempt and David Olguin was up close when a Warhawk blocked his shot. The visitors were ahead 3-0 at the break.
Before Peña Martinez scored, Jordan Lopez had some of the Blue Devils’ best chances in the second half. Osvaldo Silos was on frame with a free kick, but it, too, was saved.
