TIFTON — South Georgia Banking Company recently celebrated the service and lasting legacy of Grady Thompson, who has retired from the SGBC Board of Directors after more than 30 years of steadfast leadership.

Since 1990, Thompson has been an advocate for strengthening communities across Tift County and the state of Georgia through his work with local, county, and state organizations, the bank said in a press release.

In tribute to his dedication to both community and conservation, SGBC donated $5,000 to establish a Soil and Water Conservation Scholarship Fund—a cause close to Thompson’s heart. The fund will support students who share his passion for environmental stewardship and public service.

“We could not be more grateful for Grady Thompson’s invaluable leadership over the years,” said Glenn P. Willis, CEO of South Georgia Banking Company and chairman of the SGBC Board of Directors. “Grady has offered sound business insight, thoughtful counsel, and a deep commitment to serving Tift County and South Georgia — both personally and professionally. His legacy at SGBC and in our communities is profound, and we wish him all the best in this new chapter.”

South Georgia Banking Company has been recognized by S&P Global, ranking 26th in asset size of chartered banks nationwide, totaling close to $600 million. SGBC has eight full-service locations in Colquitt, Tift, Turner, Crisp, Worth, and Dooley counties.
