Blue Devils barely miss qualifying for golf postseason

MOULTRIE — Tift County’s Blue Devils golf team came so close to extending their season Monday, April 28, at Sunset Country Club.
Led by Porter Johnson’s 74, the Blue Devils shot 310 as a team at the combined region/area golf tournament, but they missed playing in the sectionals by two strokes.
Host Colquitt County won the region with a 294 score. Harrison also fired a 294. Both automatically qualified for state.
Lowndes and Richmond Hill are the sectional qualifiers, carding 297 and 308, respectively.
Johnson was similarly close to qualifying as an individual. Camden County’s James Randall moves, courtesy of a 72.
Besides Johnson’s day on the links, Tift had a 78 from Mitchell Kunes and 79s from Blaze Abbott and Cooper Pate. Will Massey finished at 80 and Jase Weldon shot 85.
