TIFTON — The Keep Tift Beautiful board has named their Beauty Spots for the month of May.
The home of the Mason family, located at 759 Bowen Road, and the courtyard of The Myon Hotel, located behind what is now the Tifton City Hall, were given the designation of Beauty Spots for the month.
The yard of the Mason home sports several acres of flowers, trees, and shrubs, all carefully tended to by the homeowner through hours of work to create a picturesque space of land.
Residents of Tifton can head downtown to enjoy the courtyard’s visual appeal for themselves, finding it just behind the foyer of City Hall. Thanks to the efforts of several members of the community, the space recently underwent a renovation, receiving new statues, plants, and other accents.
The courtyard has been a part of Tifton for over a century, with the accompanying Myon Hotel being constructed in 1906 by I.W. Myers to service commuters from passenger trains passing through Tifton. After it began to fall into disrepair in the 1960s following changes in transportation routes, it underwent a city-sponsored renovation in the late ’80s, modifying it to serve, at least partially, as the City Hall as it is known today.
Much of the charm and relics of the old hotel still remain, including the Myon insignia upon the floor of City Hall and, of course, the newly renovated courtyard, now serving as one of May’s Beauty Spots.
