TIFTON — The American Legion Fairgrounds are sure to be buzzing with the new year on its way.

Community members have once again been invited out to the fairgrounds New Years Eve to celebrate the countdown to 2025 with Tift County’s own New Year’s event, the Gnat Drop.

Much like the ball drop at Times Square, the event’s mascot Matt the Gnat will be dropped down as the minutes tick away to midnight, finishing with fireworks and festivities once the clock turns over to the new year.

County commissioner and event organizer Melissa Hughes has asserted that guests will have plenty of entertainment as they await the coming of midnight, including food vendors and live entertainment from “Soulful Singer” Felicia Howard and multigenre music group Zone 3.

This year’s Gnat Drop will be the first to be accompanied by a car show, titled “Cruising into 2025,” which will include vintage cars and top of the line vehicles from car groups in Valdosta and Tifton.

The event will also mark the flagship inclusion of a kids zone, sponsored by Alliance of Children, which will provide Tiftarea youths interested in counting down the new year the opportunity to enjoy themselves with bounce houses, facepainting, and a variety of games.

The Gnat Drop will begin at the American Legion Fairgrounds at 4 p.m. and will go on until 1 a.m. New Year’s Day. For more information, contact (229) 326-0241.
