TIFTON — The City of Tifton has enlisted contractor Barber Contracting Company to work on renovations for the Blackmarr Amphitheater at Fulwood Park.

City council agreed to appoint the contractor to the job during its Dec. 16 meeting after determining that the park facility was in need of restoration or a full replacement.

Utilities division manager Adam Cobb reported that Barber was the only company to make an offer on the project when bids had opened Dec. 12, coming in at $587,072.63. While this offer was still over the city’s budget, Cobb noted that they would be able to reduce the price by $11,900 if they went through the process of demolishing and removing the old stage.

The project is expected to be paid from numerous sources, including the $25,000 remaining of the city’s ARPA funds and $250,000 from the Tifton-Tift County Tourism Association. The excess is planned to be paid with the city’s hotel/motel tax funds.
