TIFTON – Gregory L. Roseboro, who for 29 years worked with the University of Georgia School of Law and for the past seven years led its admissions operations, has joined Mabra Law as senior counsel.
One of Mabra Law’s offices is located in Tifton.
In recognition of his service and accomplishments during an illustrious academic career, the Law School’s Alumni Association awarded the former assistant dean for admissions, diversity and inclusion and strategic initiatives its highest honor: the Distinguished Service Scroll, firm representatives said in a statement.
The award recognizes law school alumni for a distinguished reputation in their field, exemplary record of service to the legal profession, outstanding record of public service and/or a record of outstanding service to the Law School Alumni Association.
The awards are presented each spring during the Alumni/Alumnae Weekend Keynote and Distinguished Service Scroll Awards ceremony.
Roseboro earned both his bachelor’s degree (1984) and his juris doctor (’87) from the University of Georgia.
He began his legal career as a settlement negotiator for State Farm Insurance and USAA, returning five years later to Athens where he practiced plaintiff’s personal injury law. In 1994, he joined the law school as its assistant director of admissions, student affairs and legal career services.
Through the years, his responsibilities and titles expanded to mirror “his deep commitment to diversifying legal scholarship, ensuring that each generation of legal leaders more closely resembled the world they served,” according to the statement.
Working with faculty, staff, students and alumni and focused on academic support, recruitment and community outreach, “Roseboro’s leadership yielded tremendous gains in every category of student diversity,” representatives added.
Roseboro also advised UGA Law’s Davenport-Benham Black Law Students Association, Asian Law Students Association, Hispanic Law Students Association and Outlaws student organization.
Roseboro officially retired from the law school in January; however, he will continue to serve as adjunct faculty, teaching Race and Law, offered in the fall.
During his three decades at UGA, Roseboro guided or mentored nearly 6,000 law students, many of whom would become Georgia legal leaders, including Mabra Law founder Ronnie Mabra Jr. and attorney Jarrod Burch.
“Greg Roseboro is an icon in Georgia’s legal community. He easily could have spent his well-earned retirement from UGA relaxing. That’s not who he is, though,” Mabra said. “We are honored to welcome our mentor and friend Greg Roseboro to the Mabra Law family. We celebrate this well-deserved, prestigious award with him and his family as we look toward a mutually fruitful future.
“Greg could have chosen to return to practice anywhere — any Am Law 100 firm, any well-known boutique firm would clamor for the breadth of knowledge and influence he brings,” Mabra added.
For Roseboro, the choice was simple.
“I’ve watched Ronnie and Jarrod over the years,” he said. “They continue to impress me not just by what they are building, but by their philosophy and the care they take with their clients. They are men of whose characters convey their integrity.”
The former pastor of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Comer, Roseboro remains active in civic affairs. He is based in Mabra Law’s Warner Robins office, however, his practice will span the State of Georgia.
Mabra Law Firm has three locations: Atlanta, Tifton and Warner Robins.
