Top-seed Central girls ousted
THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Two goals within the final two minutes of the first half Wednesday proved too much of a hole for the Thomas County Central girls soccer team to pull out of despite a strong second 40 minutes. Eagle’s Landing’s Teralynn Matthews had a first-half hat trick as the team moved on to the second round with a 4-0 victory over Central, ending the Yellow Jackets’ season. “We’re emotional because we hate to see the seniors go. We hate to see it end this way, but all good things come to an end,” head coach Kristy Peeples said. The Yellow Jackets (12-5, 10-0 Region 1-AAAA) came in as the No. 1 seed in their region with multiple mercy-rule victories while the Eagles traveled as the 4-seed. “I told them they have something to be really proud of that no one’s done in this region, and that’s back-to-back years of 10-0 region champs,” Peeples said. The Eagles advanced to play the winner of the North Hall vs. Carrollton game.
