WARNER ROBINS — Tift County basketball teams increased their win total by one apiece Friday, Jan. 20, courtesy of Houston County.

Head coach Tommy Blackshear’s Blue Devils won a close contest against the Bears, 52-46. The win was the 12th of the year against five losses and also pushed their Region 1-6A record to 3-2.

He said Will Clark led the scoring with 15 points. Christian Jones scored 9, with McKyler Horne at 7 points and Henry Gebhart and Tyler Parker with 5 each.

Blackshear called it a big win for his team, especially given that it was on the road. Both of the Devils’ previous region losses were away from home.

The Lady Devils won over Houston, 67-25. According to a box score on MaxPreps, they were ahead 34-8 at halftime. They are 13-4 for the year, 4-1 in 1-6A.

Tift is slated to play one region and one non-region game over the next seven days. Jan. 27, they are scheduled for a Region 1-6A date at Thomas County Central, a team they swept earlier in the season. On Jan. 28, they head to Sumter County.

Basketball will finally return home Jan. 31 for games against Veterans.
