VALDOSTA, Ga. — For the second day in a row, a major Valdosta retailer was evacuated Tuesday due to a bomb scare.

A bomb threat targeting Walmart at 340 Norman Drive was received just after 1 p.m., said Capt. Kari Williams of the Valdosta Police Department. The building was evacuated and police detectives were sent to the scene, she said.

Police cars could be seen blocking the entrances to the store’s parking lot.

Police asked Moody Air Force Base to send a military dog team from the 23rd Security Forces Squadron to assist, said TSgt. Zachary Wolf of Moody.

The store was reopened at about 3:10 p.m. after the site was deemed safe, Williams said.

Valdosta’s other Walmart, at 3274 Inner Perimeter Road, was evacuated Monday after a bomb threat at 2:20 p.m. Police and Moody K9 units searched the building, but no bomb was found, Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress said.

A second bomb threat was called in to the Inner Perimeter Road store a few hours later, at 5:37 p.m., forcing another evacuation, Williams said. Another search turned up no bomb.

“At this point, a detective has been assigned to all three cases and currently is following up on information received from all three Walmart facilities,” Childress said.
