TIFTON — The July 10 fire at the Tift County Schools administrative offices left only minimal damage to the building, thanks in part to the efforts of one woman on the scene.

Tift County Board of Education expressed gratitude to Facilko staff member Tangela Coney during a recent meeting for her speedy reporting of the fire on the evening of the incident.

TCS Superintendent Adam Hathaway explained that Coney had contacted the fire department after smelling burning plastic and briefly investigating the building. He said her actions played a crucial part in saving the building.

Board members presented Coney with a certificate marking her exceptional work and once again thanked her for her quick thinking.
