TIFTON — Tift County Schools issued a plan Friday in advance of any potential winter weather that could close schools next week.

Snow, quite rare for southern Georgia, is a possibility for Tuesday night and The Weather Channel does not anticipate the high temperatures for Tuesday-Thursday to be above 39 degrees. The lows for Sunday-Friday will be below freezing, possibly dipping as low as 22 degrees on Wednesday.

Friday, the system posted on social media that Chromebooks are being sent home for all 3rd-12th grade students. Teachers, said Tift Schools, “will provide assignments in your child’s Google Classroom that would need to be completed if the system is closed due to weather.”

Students in grades Pre-K through 2nd will be bringing home workbooks and packets in case they have to be home for weather. If school is not closed, Tift County Schools said the packets can be used for additional practice for the student.

“Additionally, we have populated our district website with links to additional resources that can be utilized with students to reinforce grade level standards. These links are within the For Parents part of the Tift County Schools website,” the system stated.
