Officers from the Tifton Police Department were called to Tift County High School Tuesday morning in reference to some marijuana being found in a classroom.

Sgt. Toni Gann reported that at 12:30 p.m., a small, clear, Ziploc bag containing what appeared to be marijuana was found under a desk in Room 132. Gann took the bag and spoke with Dr. Eric Holland, assistant principal.

Holland said the teacher in the classroom, Brad Floyd, had called him about the marijuana, and that Officer Daniel Ray had come to the classroom to take possession of the bag. Ray turned the bag over to Gann as he was leaving the campus to attend training, the report stated.

Floyd said he had first noticed the bag under the desk about 9:30 that morning, but didn’t realize what it was. A student later drew his attention to it at about 11:40 a.m. The report stated that Floyd “kicked the marijuana from under (the student’s) desk.” Floyd then called Holland.

The bag contained a marijuana blunt and some loose marijuana. It was unclear how the bag had been placed under the desk or to whom it belonged.

Allison Naomi Shealey, 30, 47 Eastgate Drive in Tifton, was arrested Tuesday and charged with theft by shoplifting (first offense), and theft by deception.

According to a report at the Tifton Police Department, Shealey entered Wal-Mart with nothing but a dark bag in a shopping cart. She picked up a camouflage diaper bag and ripped something off it, tossing it to the side. She began gathering various items around the store, and then attempted to refund the items using old receipts. These items included two DVDs and the diaper bag. All of this was captured on store cameras.

The cashier in Customer Service told Shealey she would need a barcode for the diaper bag, and Shealey went to retrieve another diaper bag from the shelf. Instead, she tore the barcode off another bag, and took it to Customer Service. This was witnessed by a store employee.

Shealey was told no refund would be given and she was asked to leave the store.

A store employee said this is not the first time Shealey has attempted this scam. During a previous attempt, an employee wrote down Shealey’s driver’s license number, as well as the license plate information from her vehicle, which was provided to the Tifton Police Department.

Officer Quinton Peacock was later on a call regarding a possible drunk driver in the Tifton City Hall parking lot. He discovered that the license plate matched that of Shealey’s, and he questioned her about the incident at Wal-Mart. She said she entered the store with items in her cart, and had added some items that were on shelves in the front of the store, and then approached the Customer Service desk. She said she was told the items could not be refunded after 90 days, and that she had left the store.

A resident of Ferry Lake Road in Tifton reported Tuesday that the passenger-side window of his vehicle, parked at his residence, had been broken and a cinder block, found on the floor board, appeared to be the cause. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle, which had been left unlocked overnight, the owner said.

The complainant said he and his wife had been having trouble with SUR 13 gang members and the couple called the police on them.

A local resident reported that while he was at the Tifton-Tift County Library, his bike was stolen. The complainant told officers he had parked the bicycle in the bike rack next to the south side of the stairs leading to the entrance of the library, located on Love Avenue. Some time later, as he prepared to leave the library, he discovered his bike was gone.

The bike is described as a girl’s mongoose bicycle, purple in color, with a black seat, two orange pegs on the back tire, and a black handgrip on the right side of the handlebars. The complainant said the bike was a new purchase, and looks brand new. He had borrowed the bike from his 9-year-old cousin.

A Tifton man has reported he was attacked in his South Central Avenue apartment.

According to a report from the Tift County Sheriff’s Office, the man reported that on Monday evening, just before 11 p.m., a group of females forced their way into his home and assaulted him. To date, no arrests have been made.

The report listed three additional victims, whose information was withheld.
