Think about it

“To the person who suggested boycotting the three big gas companies, just think about what you are suggesting. Sure they’ll drop their prices, but they’ll drop them so low and keep them there so that all the little guys either go out of business or have to sell into the big company. Just think about what you’re asking. I hate the gas prices too, but they’ve got us where they want us and there is nothing we can do about that.”

A suggestion

“If the county and the city are concerned about the fuel costs for their vehicle, have they considered compressed natural gas (CNG)? It is ideal for fleet vehicles. It is used in many cities in the U.S. like Washington, D.C., Fort Worth, and Denver.”

Help, please

“Help please. Attention city and county council, please help us senior citizens. Our food prices, gas prices, and medical are costing so much we need help. I would like to drive my battery golf cart to the grocery store, the doctors office, and church. I called AARP and they told me I should be able to if I have blinkers and a caution sign on the back. I am willing to buy a tag or permit if you will allow it. Some cities are already allowing senior citizens to do this.”

Wonderful tribute

“I have just finished reading Jeffrey Smith’s article in Saturday’s paper and I just wanted to say that it is a wonderful tribute to garden clubers all over the state and especially in Tift County. I’m almost 80 and I’ve been a garden club member for 50 years or more and it has been a pleasure the whole time. She just reiterated what it is to be a garden club member and to stand for our community. I hope that more young people will join garden clubs.”

Democrats to blame?

“Two-thirds of the oil price increase took place since the Democrats took control of both houses of Congress. Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton both promised to solve the energy problem. Since 2006, when the Democrats took over, gas prices have gone up from $2.50 per gallon to where they are. Part of the problem is the war, granted, but most of the problem is the Democrats’ unfailing blocking of attempts to drill for oil in this country and letting the rest of the world know that we will never do that.”

Excellent trip

“I would like to thank Judge Larry Mims for taking a group of fourth graders on a tour of the State Bar in Atlanta. You went above and beyond and the trip was excellent.”

Open-ended rhetoric

“There are many factors and reasons why the U.S. cannot pull out of Iraq at present. These reasons are not particularly evident to the average citizen, but to a political scholar it is unambiguously apparent. If you believe that a Democratic president will retreat from Iraq, then you are an ill-minded idealist. It does not matter which party is in office, we will not immediately leave Iraq. Leaving Iraq only serves as open-ended rhetoric at this point in time. If you do not agree, then ask yourself, why the Democratic elected Congress of 2006 has not fulfilled their electoral promises. Don’t fall victim to the demagoguery of Obama, and the liberal Democrats. Make educated votes.”
