Gwinnette ‘Nette’ Houston Smith

ASHBURN — Funeral services for Gwinnette “Nette” Houston Smith, 78, of Ashburn, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn, with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mrs. Smith died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Smith was born in Crisp County and was the daughter of the late W. J. and Ruby Moore Houston. She was a member of Clements Chapel United Methodist Church for 60 years, where she had been a Sunday school teacher. She was a homemaker and had resided in Turner County most of her life. On. Jan. 3, 2008, she and her husband, Leion, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Leion Smith of Ashburn; one daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Carl Gorday of Birmingham, Ala.; her grandchildren Christin Brown and her husband Justin of Helena, Ala., and Ashley Gorday of Mobile, Ala.; one brother, Fred Houston of Dublin, and three sisters, Jane Phillips of Jacksonville, Fla., Nellie Mathis of Cordele, and Willene Pearce of Pitts.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at Perry Funeral Chapel. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Tiftarea or Clements Chapel United Methodist Church.
