TIFTON — The Tift County Blue Devils took third place at the 23rd annual Blue Devil Invitational Saturday. They finished behind Lee County and Valdosta, respectively. Lowndes finished fourth.

Hunter Kelley of Berrien was named Most Outstanding Wrestler, as voted on by the coaches. Kelley won at 132 pounds, pinning Tift’s Quen Campbell at 1:46.

The Devils’ lone champion of the day was Charley Powell, wrestling at 182, who had an overtime victory over Brandon Wright of Valdosta, 4-2.

Jerry Rodriquez won second place for the hosts, falling to Lee County’s Jonah Anderson by pinfall in the 145-pound bracket. Rayder Schemmel had a close loss at 160 to Lee’s Brett Butler, 6-4. Brandon Nixon finished second after falling by pin in his match to Lowndes’ Parker Metcalf in the 285-pound bracket.

The Devils had a third place finish from Jake Pratt at 120 pounds. He won his final bout by pin. David Scarborough took 3rd at 195. He also won by pinfall.

Fourth place went to Will Rowland in the 113-pound division, Dylan Musgrove at 120, Brandon Hall at 126, Vontrell Calhoun at 145, Draven Anderson (152)

Cole Dillard came in 5th at 132 as did Dalton Burks at 160, Alex Waldrop at 170 and Kirkland Flanders at 220. Johnathan Villafranca was a 6th place finisher at 152

120 pounds: Raymond Hunter (Lee) defeated Trevian Walton (Valdosta) by pinfall.

126 pounds: Derek Smith (Valdosta) won by forfeit over William Wilhelm (Thomas County Central)

132 pounds: Kelley (Berrien) defeated Campbell (Tift) by pin.

138 pounds: John Cruz (Lee) beat Jorge Martinez (Colquitt County), 13-6.

145 pounds: Anderson (Lee) defeated Rodriquez (Tift) by pin.

152 pounds: Davis Ison (Lowndes) won over Garrett May (Colquitt), 22-9.

160 pounds: Butler (Lee) beat Schemmel (Tift), 6-4.

170 pounds: Bryant Crumtie (Valdosta) won over Aaron Lloyd (Lee) by pinfall.

182 pounds: Powell (Tift) defeated Wright (Valdosta) in overtime, 4-2.

195 pounds: Russell Byington (Valwood) defeated Garrett Whitfield (TCC) by pin.

220 pounds: Collins Tensley (Lee) defeated Dwayne Hart (Lowndes), 9-7.

285 pounds: Metcalf (Lowndes) won over Nixon (Tift) by pinfall.

Tift County is not done with hosting big wrestling duals. A middle school Blue Devil Invitational is scheduled to take place Dec. 13 at 9 a.m. at Eighth Street Middle School.
