Billie Brooks Butler, 85, of Tifton died Friday, April 25, 2014, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Our Divine Saviour Catholic Church with Father Justin Ferguson and Deacon J. Brian Bergeron officiating. Interment will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Pallbearers are Michael Butler, Peter Crowley, Jerry Geiger, Alexandria Wilmot, Bob Deslaursius and Corey Green.

Mrs. Butler was born March 29, 1929 in Anniston, Ala. to the late Chandler Burl Brooks, who died in 1978, and Alice Pearl Kettles Brooks, who died in 1929. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Richard Edward Butler, who died in 1997; a daughter, Rosemary Elaine Butler, who died in 1998; a brother, Garnett Mark “Jack” Brooks, who died in 1961; and a sister, Geraldine “Boots” Brooks Crowley, who died in 1980.

Mrs. Butler was an honor graduate of Commerce High School, where she played the position of guard in the school’s first girls basketball team and was part of the beginning secretarial training program. She worked in Atlanta with CBS Radio Sales, became secretary of the incentive awards program and later secretary to the post commander of Fort McPherson.

In Athens, Mrs. Butler worked as secretary to the mayor and secretary to the staff of the ROTC program. In Tifton, she worked with the Department of Labor and with the Experiment Station. She was an active member of Our Divine Saviour Catholic Church.

Mrs. Butler is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Richard and Sherry Butler of Carrollton; her grandson, Michael Kent Butler of Tifton; and her brother in-law and sister-in-law, Larry Kent and Pam Butler of Jasper. She was deeply involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews, Teresa and Jerry Geiger, Kay and Bob Deslaurius, Gerry and Roger Wilson, Peter and Elizabeth Crowley and Gregory Crowley.
