Tift tennis takes two again

THOMASVILLE — Tift County tennis head coach Ivey Vickers and her staff may want to frame this week. The Blue Devils and Lady Devils pulled off another sweep Thursday, their second since Monday. Add in the Devils defeating Lowndes Tuesday and the boys and girls have combined to go 5-1 in four days.
Thomas County Central was Thursday’s victim, the Lady Devils winning 4-1 and the Blue Devils sweeping all five matches. The Devils only lost one set against the Yellow Jackets.
Maitrey Patel did not just sweep his match, but did not lose a game. He defeated Keaton Stephan, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Ben Wilson was nearly perfect, winning of Cagle Willis, 6-1, 6-0. Ross Peters swept Jaylen Duncan, 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles, Christian Mathis and Rhett Stephenson won over Joshua Williamson and Caleb Kinneer, 6-1, 6-2. Nathan Beck and Tyson Lasseter defeated C.J. Covington and Braxton White, 6-4, 5-7 (11-9).
Bryaden Callison, Anna Claire Owens and Caydence Gabel all won at singles for Tift. Gabel defeated Charlize Scudden, 6-2, 1-0, with Scudder having to retire because of injury. Callison’s victory was against Samantha Jennings, 6-2, 6-0. Owens earned 6-2, 6-2 win against Heali Patel.
Kylei Cutts teamed with Fatima Williams for a win over Claire Pope and Allie Bellamy, 6-2, 6-2. Madison Garner and Molly Wells fell to Loxley Slocumb and Jaley Keyton, 6-4, 6-4.
Tift’s next match is slated for Monday against Irwin County. It will be in Tifton. They will also be at home Tuesday against Deerfield-Windsor.
