James DeOttis York, 88, of Ty Ty died Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Tift Health Care Center in Tifton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Jason Jones, the Rev. Larry Layfield, the Rev. Dan Eidson and the Rev. Tim Blanton officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brian York, Bradley Hembree, Shane Folds, Patrick Marchant, Jonathan Childree, David Brooks and Rusty Garren. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Nicholson, Tommy Tucker, Edd Paulk, Troy Hobbs, Harold Ogletree, Wayne Robinson, Billy Barfield, Pittman Barfield, Kermit Brooks, Billy King, Ed Tillery, Foster Goff, the staff of Bethany Hospice and the staff of Tift Health Care.
Born on Nov. 30, 1922, in Guin, Ala., to the late James Buck York and the late Susan Ethel Draper York, Mr. York was also preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters. He had been employed at Tri-County Gas Company and Union Camp and had served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Music was his passion and he was well known for playing the fiddle with The Georgia Ramblers. Mr. York loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of New River Baptist Church.
Survivors include his beloved wife of over 59 years, to whom he was married on Nov. 18, 1951, Mary Martin York of Ty Ty; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley D. and Kathy York of Statesboro and Mark and Debbie York of Tifton; his daughter, Susan York Hubbard of Ty Ty; one sister and brother-in-law, Essielene and William Allgood of Tifton; his grandchildren, Brian and Mandy York, Stephanie and Bradley Hembree, Hannah Clark, Jordana and Jonathan Childree, Ginger and Patrick Marchant and Shane and Amy Folds; his great-grandchildren, Brady, Chloe, Mary Claire (Papa’s Little Queen), Drew, Olivia, and Cooper; a special friend, Gary Brunty of Ty Ty; his oldest friend, Bunk Duckworth of Warner Robins; his caregiver, Cathy Perry of Adel; and many nieces and nephews.
