Cade Marlowe hits for Everett in 2021.

LITTLE ROCK — Cade Marlowe started off a bit slow for the Arkansas Travelers, but all the Tiftarea Academy alum has done is hit in the second half.

Marlowe’s average sat at .217 at the end of April and was .230 when May concluded. Since then, he’s been on fire.

On Sept. 3, Marlowe hit an inside-the-park-home run. Footage posted on Twitter shows the ball was launched into the centerfield gap. Hustling out of the box, he scored on a headfirst slide to avoid a high tag. It was a four-hit night for him against the Midland Rockhounds.

Official Minor League stats have Marlowe up to a .282 average for the year. After 11 RBIs in August, he already has six for September through Sept. 4.

For the year, Marlowe has 14 homers, 75 RBIs, with 118 hits in 113 games. He has also scored 64 times and stolen 35 bases. He already surpassed his 2021 hit total and is currently ahead of his average and on-base percentage of a year ago.

Major League Baseball considers him the Mariners’ No. 22 prospect, with a predicted MLB call-up date of 2023. Arkansas is an AA level team.

Marlowe was a 20th round pick of the Mariners in 2019. After a year without Minor League Baseball because of coronavirus, Marlowe did not miss a beat, named league MVP while at Class A Everett as well as Mariners Ken Griffey Jr. Minor League Hitter of the Year.
