Swim Devils tops at 5-team meet

TIFTON — The weather was cool, but the Tift County’s swim teams were hot Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Baldwin Drive Aquatic Center. The middle school Swim Devils were the overall winners of a five-team meet.
The Lady Devils won their division, with Coffee Middle tops in the boys. Tift combined for 1,129 points to Coffee’s 1,113 in combined scores. The Lady Devils scored 614 of those points to Coffee’s 514. The boys’ scorers switched the top two squads, 599 points for Coffee to 515 for Tift. Jeff Davis, Colquitt County and Pierce County also participated.
Jovia Burke and Abby Lupo posted individual wins for the Lady Devils
Burke and Nolan Miller swept the 200-yard freestyle. In Miller’s race — which he won in 2:40 — teammates Porter Johnson and Davis Kunes were 2nd and 3rd. Burke earned her 200 freestyle in 2:15.
Lupo’s first win was in the 200 individual medley. Her time was 2:41. Stella Byrnes earned 2nd for Tift in the same race. The 100 butterfly also went to Lupo in 1:12. Burke went on to further win the 500 freestyle in 5:58, with Bailey Brock in 2nd.
Laney Griffin, Brock, Lupo and Burke won the 200 medley relay in 2:16 and the 400 freestyle relay in 4:42. Ethan Van Orman, Davis Kunes, Nolan Miller and Brock Alexion were 1st in the 400 freestyle relay in 5:01.
