ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A former Tift County sports star will be leading his team this year. J.D. Bengston has been named one of two captains for Navy’s rugby team.

Bengston participated in seven sports as a Blue Devil. Of course, none were rugby, which he discovered after enrolling at Navy.

A Navy press release said Bengston had 14 starts as a wing last year. He scored 30 points in those games. The Midshipmen have competed in a national title game for two consecutive seasons.
