Bad crackers
“I stopped … yesterday morning, taking my husband to the hospital, and I got a pack of crackers at one of the convenience stores, and they didn’t taste good. I looked at the expiration date, and it had January 2006. I thought this was against the law. I was going to take them back, but we got out of the hospital so late last night I didn’t get time to take them back. They need to clean their shelves off.”
Test the board, too
“I agree with random testing for schools, only if the board of education is tested, too.”
That WAS nice
“I have a Rant concerning the person that said about being nice about what I put in the paper about staying home, talking about being nice, not being rude: That was being nice. People get out here and run up and down the road that don’t have a reason. With the economy like it is now, fuel prices and grocery prices going up… If you want lower prices, be conservative, not be out here just running up and down the road… Unless you’ve got business on the road, stay home.”
Get the tools
“If we want Tifton to grow, we have to give our elected officials tools with which to work. The recent defeat of TAD is one example of taking a good tool away from them. Other tools that Cordele has implemented, Tifton hasn’t. If you want to grow, get the tools. Otherwise, be content.”
Really likes Purcell
“I think Billy Purcell needs to write articles for The Tifton Gazette. I really like reading his letters to the editor.”
Start at the top
“About the drug testing at school: That’s a good idea, but let’s start at the top. Let’s test the principals and the teachers and the substitute teachers. Let’s test them first, that way we can set an example for the kids. And then let’s go on down to the police department and test the cops, then shoot down to the sheriff’s office and test them. …Let’s set the example for the kids and let the grownups do it first, from the principals to the sheriff.”
Great story
“What a great story by Jana Cone on the turkeys. It is so good to finally have a good animal story coming out of Tifton. Thank you.”
Just go for it
“This is in response to ‘Count the cost:’ First of all, the only right that is being violated is the right to know. If one person is being suspected of drugs, that’s a probable cause and one too many. Too much stuff has been swept under the rugs. We need to face reality… I say test them all and bring it to light and deal with it, whether that’s getting these children some counseling or some rehab. I say go for it and don’t worry about the cost.”
Go Panthers
“Congratulation to the Tiftarea Panthers for reaching the state GISA semifinals. Coach Marvin Barton has taken a bunch of young kids and taught them to win. He is also teaching them to be honorable young men. We are blessed to have our boys under his watch.”
