Tiftarea beats
Open Bible, 5-4
The Tiftarea Academy Panthers baseball team defeated Open Bible 5-4 Thursday in Chula behind a pair of powerful bats.
Justin Burke and Chance Benson each homered to pace the Panthers. Burke was a triple away from the cycle with a single, a double and a two-run homer. He finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Benson also had two RBIs to go along with his home run.
Matthew Souter had three stolen bases for the Panthers. Chandler Hammond batted 2-for-4. Will Smith earned the win on the mound.
Tuesday, the Panthers lost 1-0 in a region contest to Southwest Georgia Academy in Damascus. Panthers’ starting pitcher gave up one run in the first inning and pitched well throughout but came up on the short end of a pitcher’s duel.
The Panthers play an important region game at 4:30 p.m. today at home against Randolph-Southern.
ABAC women
win in finale
The Abraham Baldwin College Fillies tennis team closed out the regular season with an 8-1 win over Georgia Southwestern Thursday in Americus.
At No. 1 singles, Kedi Magakgala won, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 2, Lindsay Jacobs won, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 3, Jackla Dean won, 6-4, 7-6.
At No. 4 singles, Cassie Burke won 6-4, 6-1. At No. 5, Brooke Anglin was victorious, 6-2, 6-4.
At No. 1 doubles, Magakgala and Jacobs won, 8-4. At No. 2, Dean and Burke won, 8-2. At No. 3, Gracie Qurnella and Brittney Bowden won 9-8.
ABAC finished with a 14-10 record in the regular season and will play in the region tournament next weekend in Tifton.

region thriller
The Turner County Rebels baseball team won, 7-6, in eight innings over region-rival Wilcox County Thursday in Ashburn.

loses close one
The Tift County junior varsity baseball team lost a heartbreaker, 12-11, to Houston County Thursday in Warner Robins.
Tiftarea track
meet canceled
The Prince Relay track meet scheduled for Saturday at Tiftarea Academy has been canceled due to delayed construction on the school’s track.
