Jane Higgins Land

ASHBURN — Jane Higgins Land, 84, of Ashburn, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Tift Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, make donations to the Ashburn First United Methodists.

A native of Ripley, Tenn., Land was the daughter of John A. Higgins and Hazel McDonald Higgins, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lee Land.

A longtime resident of Ashburn before moving to Ashburn in 1997, Land was a homemaker and a member of the Christ Untied Methodist Church in Memphis, Tenn.

She is survived by one sister, Betty Jo Greene of Ashburn; and many nieces and nephews.

Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn is in charge of arrangements.



Mickey Peterson

TIFTON — Marianne “Mickey” Williams Peterson, 81, of Tifton, formerly of Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Zion Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Olin Hamlin will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Panama City, Fla.

Pallbearers will be Simmy McKeown Sr, Clarence Smith, Carroll Applewhite, Fred Barnes, George Day and Kameron Goodwin.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Fellowship Sunday School Class and the deacons of Zion Hope Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Hope Cemetery Fund.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. today at Zion Hope Baptist Church.

Born May 23, 1920, in Bainbridge, Peterson was the daughter of Ernest Winfrey Williams and Jimmielee Moseley Williams, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, T. Lee Peterson.

A resident of Tifton since April 2000, Peterson was a homemaker and a member of Zion Hope Baptist Church of Tifton and First Baptist Church in Panama City.

She was a member of the St. Andrew Chapter #223 in Panama City and several related Masonic organizations. Peterson was also very active at Zion Hope Baptist Church, where she helped organize The Prayer Warriors prayer group and was active in Sunday School activities.

She is survived by one brother, Robert I. Williams of Blairesville; one sister, Mary A. Williams of Missoula, Mont.; a special niece/daughter and family, Ann and Darrel Goodwin, Alyssa Goodwin, Eric Goodwin and Karen Baldree, all of Tifton; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors, Tiftarea Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Kanawah Gaskin, 58, of Tifton, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, in Atlanta. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. today in Chattanooga, Tenn. Survivors include one son, Tony Gaskin of Tifton; and one brother, Ivery N. Bryant of Tifton. Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home in Chattanooga is in charge of arrangements.

Lester A. Flanders, 84, of Adel, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Rountree Cemetery. Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home in Adel is in charge of arrangements.
