Gwendolyn Baker Thomas

TIFTON — Gwendolyn Baker Thomas, 58, of Tifton, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Dorminy Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. L.A. Pate will officiate. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Carl McBrayer, Neal McBrayer, Timmy Goodman, Dewayne Barber, Steve Stanfill and John McBrayer will serve as pallbearers.

Ms. Thomas was born on Dec. 26, 1946, in Colquitt County. She was the daughter of Benjamin Edward Banker and Dorothy Montgomery Baker, both deceased. She was a homemaker.

Ms. Thomas is survived by a son, Alan Thomas of Fitzgerald; three brothers, Benjamin Baker of Hillsman, Texas, Curtie Baker of Cusseta, and Roger Baker of Cottonwood, Ala.; five sisters, Eula Mae McGee of Moultrie, Frances McBrayer of Lenox, Joann McBrayer of Jacksonville, Fla., Faye Barber of Pavo and Lou Nightingale of Orange Park, Fla.; two granddaughters, Vennesa Thomas and Kimber Thomas; and one great-granddaughter, Airanee Thomas.

Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.



Loyd Earl Drake

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Loyd Earl Drake, 76, of Alexandria, La., died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, in Baton Rouge. Military burial services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Port Hudson National Cemetery, Baton Rouge, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville.

Mr. Drake was a native of Tifton and a long time resident of Alexandria. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 54 years, Jackie Drake of Alexandria, La.; two sons, Robert Drake and Lane Drake of Baton Rouge, La. ; one daughter, Trina Drake of Baton Rouge, La.; daughter-in-law; Bonnie Gremillion Drake; son-in-law, Tommy Terral; grandchildren, Laney Snow, Sarah Drake, Laurie Snow, Robert Drake Jr., Dylan Drake and Brandon Drake; and two sisters, Barbara Sibbet of Tifton and Lela Kate Biggs of Orlando, Fla.

He is preceded in death by his parents George and Katie Lou Drake; siblings, James Drake and Sarah Drake all of Tifton; George Drake of Metairie, La. and granddaughter Sandra Nicole Drake of Pineville, La.

Loyd Drake proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member and past commander of VFW Post 1736 and a member of the American Legion and AM Vets. He was retired from the U. S. Forest Service.

His humor and joyful spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

Dorothy Mildred Browning Clayton

BRUNSWICK — Dorothy Mildred Browning Clayton, 83, of Brunswick, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, in Brunswick Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home. The Rev. H.E. Wheatley will officiate. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Lovein Funeral Home in Nashville.

Mrs. Clayton was born on July 30, 1921, in Berrien County. She was the daughter of Harris Browning and Rhoda Corbitt Browing, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Clayton, who died in 1986, and a son, Lamar Mallette.

Mrs. Clayton was a homemaker and a retired bookkeeper. She was a member of the United Methodist faith.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Joann Mallette of Brunswick; five grandchildren; and one great grandson.
