James King

TIFTON — James Edward King, 38, of Tifton, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Cone officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Ronnie Samples, Wayne Samples, Mike Samples, Ricky Samples, David Lynch and Harrell Willis.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors, Tiftarea Chapel. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Born March 17, 1966 in Tifton, Mr. King was the son of Edwin Erwin “Ed” King and Patricia Maxine “Patsy” Barton King of Tifton. He was a maintenance worker with Driver’s Choice and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. He was a lifetime resident of Tifton.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one sister, Deborah Willis of Tifton; one niece and one nephew, Kerri and Jason Willis of Tifton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Winnie L. Gann

TY TY — Winnie Lucille Newell Gann, 86, of Ty Ty, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Tift Health Care.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ty Ty Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Danny Jones officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors, Tiftarea Chapel.

Born December 29, 1917, in Marion County, Alabama, Mrs. Gann was the daughter of Seth Verdo Newell and Mary Eugene York Newell, both deceased. She was a longtime resident of Ty Ty, a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed growing flowers, reading and quilting. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldo Washington “E.W.” Gann; three sisters, one brother and a granddaughter, Kathie Goins.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Hilton and Lutrelle Gann, David and Marie Gann and Robert and Toni Gann, all of Tifton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joann and Bob Baird of Groveland, Fla., Barbara and Jackie Goins of Ty Ty and Linda and Jimmie Norman of Tifton; two sisters, Minnie Lee Pollard of Tifton and Ethylene Tucker of Moultrie; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dena Virginia McCrary

TIFTON — Dena Virginia McFarland McCrary, 78, of Tifton, died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at Beverly Health Care.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Fred Evers and the Rev. Mike Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and the Ladies Sunday School class of Northside Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the services.

Born March 26, 1926 in Irwin County, Mrs. McCrary was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin (Frank) McFarland and Rosa Mae Hickman McFarland, both deceased. She was a longtime resident of Tifton, a member of Northside Baptist Church and had been employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Memphis, Tenn.

Mrs. McCrary was also preceded in death by one great-grandson, Michael Kirkman, one sister, Juanita Pritchett, and six brothers, Lawrence, Archie, Hartford, Benjamin C., George W. and Walter McFarland.

Survivors include her husband, Howard C. McCrary, to whom she was married for 58 years; one son and daughter-in-law, Howard C. “Buddy” and Debra McCrary of Tifton; three daughters and one son-in-law, Dena Cheryl and Doug Kirkman of Macon, Linda S. McCrary and Nancy A. McCrary, both of Tifton; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Cora Belle and Worth McCrary of Tifton and Lillie Mae Tomasich of Mobile, Ala.; 11 grandchildren, Dena and Ben Hand of Byron, Jon and Tabitha Linbarger of Jacksonville, Fla., Christy and Bryan Day of Tifton, David and Adrienne Kirkman of Macon, James and Brandi McCrary of Tifton and Joseph Gill of Tifton; eight great-grandchildren, Leighann Williams of Byron, Jacob, Samantha and Jasmine Linbarger, all of Jacksonville, Fla., Chase and Alyssa Day, both of Tifton, and Christian and Devin Kirkman, both of Macon; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

Royce “Bo” Alexander

ATLANTA — Royce “Bo” Alexander, 72, of Atlanta, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Southern Regional Medical Center in Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. M.C. Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Marty Alexander, Ray Flowers, Andrea Flowers, Denzil Harrell, Donny Harrell, Rodney Harrell, and Roy Kitchens. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Harrell, Jay Harrell, Darrell Alexander, Alvin Powell, Dale Powell, Wayne Powell, Darrell Powell, Hal Ivey, Gary Harris and Clay Harris.

Born December 27, 1931 in Berrien County, Mr. Alexander was the son of John Alexander and Lodie Belflower Alexander, both deceased. He was retired from the General Motors Assembly Line and was a member of 2nd Baptist Church of Forest Park. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by one grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Rosaline Powell Alexander of Atlanta; one son, Marty Alexander; one daughter, Kay Alexander Flowers of Atlanta; one brother, Jake Alexander of Tifton; three sisters, Reba Moncus of Leesburg, Edna Shell of Duluth and Bernice Harrell of Lithonia; three grandchildren, Kerri Flowers of Athens, Audria Flowers of Athens and Angie Alexander of Albany.

Ray Miller Hetzel

TIFTON — Ray Miller Hetzel, 92, of Tifton, died Friday, May 28, 2004 at Tift Health Care.

A memorial service was held in Lutherville, Md. with Joe Sargeant officiating. Burial followed at Delaney Valley.

Born May 1, 1912 in Washington, D.C., Mrs. Hetzel was the daughter of David Norman Miller and Ruby Bowles Miller, both deceased. She was a history teacher and taught school for 23 years. She was also a 4-H club leader for 23 years, and a Sunday School teacher at Timonium United Methodist in Lutherville, Md. She loved reading and crafts of all kinds and she lived in Tifton for 10 years.

Mrs. Hetzel was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Hayward Hetzel, and three brothers, Norman, William and Earl Miller.

Survivors include three sons, Dave Hetzel, Glen Hetzel and Don Hetzel; one brother, Glenn Miller; and nine grandchildren, who loved to sit for hours and listen to their grandmother tell memorable stories of the family.

Floell Banks Driskell

TIFTON — Mrs. Floell Banks Driskell, 86, of Tifton, went to a heavenly home Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Tift Health Care.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Cone and the Rev. Brantley Seymour officiating. Burial will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include Charles Welsh, Virgil Johnson, Glenn Hickman and Sammy Mason.

Born December 26, 1917 in Irwin County, Mrs. Driskell was the daughter of Thomas Monroe Banks and Lula Mae Phillips Banks, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Brookfield Baptist Church.

Mrs. Driskell was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and one grandson.

Survivors include one son, Charles Wayne Driskell of Tifton; one daughter, Gloria Roberson of Tifton; two sisters, Gaynell Johnson of Tifton and Leah Evans of Tifton; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Imogene Hester Tice

CLERMONT, Fla. — Imogene Hester Tice, 76, of Clermont, Fla., died Thursday, May 27, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Tice was a homemaker and a member of Oak Tree Baptist Church in Mascotte, Fla. She was known as Lady Jean of the Egypt Temple Shrine.

Survivors include her husband, Clifton L. Tice of Clermont, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Bert and Debbie Barnes of Clermont; one sister, Betty DeVane of Clewiston, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Moody F. Tice of Yuma, Ariz.; seven sisters-in-law; two uncles, Bub Hester of Tifton and Lee Hester of Palitine, Texas; two granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Vera Francis Maddox Jones

TIFTON — Vera Francis Maddox Jones, 95, of Tifton, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Tift Health Care.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Omega Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Omega Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Greg House, Randy Jones, Kevin Donald, Alex Simmons, Jamie Carr and Michael Carr.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before the service.

Born September 20, 1908 in McCall, S.C., Mrs. Jones was the daughter of Will Maddox and Carrie Harrington Maddox, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Omega Methodist Church. She lived in Omega most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Jones; a son, William Carrol Jones; one brother, two sisters and one daughter-in-law.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Sara Jones of Omega; five grandchildren, Rhonda Kunes, Peggy Carr, Patricia Simmons, Kathy Donald and Johnny Jones; 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Nettie Grubbs Watson Lewis

SYLVESTER — Mrs. Nettie Grubbs Watson Lewis, 90, of Sylvester, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Phoebe Worth Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sam Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service hour.

Born October 6, 1913 in DeRidder, La., Mrs. Lewis was the daughter of James Monroe Grubbs and Minnie McCullough Grubbs and was reared by her uncle Hugh D. and aunt Rhodie Boone. She was a homemaker who was very active in community service. She was a member of the Minton Garden Club who she represented at fair booths and parades throughout Southwest Georgia. She also helped her husband Max in operating Twin Pines Grocery for many years. She was a member of Kimball United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite G. Willis, and a brother, Jack Grubbs.

Survivors include her husband, Max G. Lewis of Sylvester; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy W. and Connie Watson of Sylvester; five grandchildren, James J. and Mary Beth Watson of Moultrie, Jeffery M. Watson of Worth County, Janice Brady of Sylvester and Jake Brady of Sylvester; one great-granddaughter, Mary Grace Watson of Moultrie; one sister-in-law, Clyde W. Gunter of Doerun; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Roger Dale Hill

LENOX — Roger Dale Hill, 46, of Lenox, died Saturday, May 29, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lenox Christian Fellowship Church with the Rev. James Green, the Rev. Jimmie Hinson, the Rev. Tim Mathews and the Rev. Ronnie Vice officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Eddie Clemons, James Alford, Grady King, Bubba Carter, Ernest Johns and Ricky Hill. Honorary pallbearers include Scott Hardy, Tony Garren, Charles Garren, Patrick Knight, Gary Hunter, Robert Beggs, Gene Holley, Ricky Battle, Patrick Holton and Kenny Chambless.

The body will lie in state at the residence at 2079 Darden Road in Lenox until the hour of service.

Born Sept. 12, 1957 in Tift County, Mr. Hill was the son of J.C. Hill, deceased, and Carolyn Faulkner of Douglas and his late stepfather, Lamar Faulkner. He was a shift supervisor at Kelly Manufacturing.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Dove Hill; three daughters, Sheree Tillman of Tifton, Amber Hill of Tifton and Brooke Hill of Tifton; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Richard and Donna Hill of Tifton, Stanley Hill of Tifton and Lonnie Faulkner of Douglas; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Glenda and Gary Dove of Tifton, Susan and Lyndell Easters of Tifton; Beverly and Ernest Johns of Douglas and Vicky and Greg Smith of Broxton; three grandchildren, Abigail Marie Tillman, Allen “Tad” Tillman and Bryson Dean Holton; life-long best friend Eddie Clemons and his mother-in-law, Marie Dove.
