Bertie Elizabeth Stewart Danforth
ENIGMA — Bertie Elizabeth Stewart Danforth, 84, of Enigma, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Tift Health Care following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Enigma Christian Church. The Rev. Martin Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Enigma Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the funeral service.
Brint Danforth, Daniel West, Kevin Perryman, Farrell Roberts, Llewellyn Roberts and Jock Taylor will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Danforth was born on July 17, 1920, in Enigma. She was the daughter of Jessie A. and Julia Dean Stewart, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Valarie Painter.
Mrs. Danforth was a lifelong resident of Enigma and of the Baptist faith. She was a housewife and a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Danforth is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Roger Dale and Brenda Danforth and Michael E. Danforth, all of Enigma; a daughter and son-in-law, Yvetta D. and Chet Kimmell; a sister, Ruth Roberts of Enigma; seven grandchildren, Julie and Daniel West, Haley and Kevin Perryman, Brint Danforth, Bree Danforth and Hunter Danforth; and two great-grandchildren, West and Whitney Perryman.
Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
Florine Bailey Shippey
TIFTON — Florine Bailey Shippey, 89, of Tifton, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at the Chapel of Sherwood Baptist Church. The Rev. Tom Pollock will officiate. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 today at Mathews Funeral Home in Albany.
Mrs. Shippey was born in Miller County to Press Bailey and Bertha Rentz Bailey, both deceased. She lived for a number of years in the Harmony Community on the Bailey family farm. She also lived in Calhoun County as well as in Tampa, Jacksonville and Panama City, Fla. She lived in Albany for 45 years before moving to Tifton in 2000, where she resided at Beverly Healthcare Nursing Home.
Mrs. Shippey was a graduate of Miller County High School in Colquitt and was married to the late Milton Shippey. She worked for a number of years as a nurse for Dr. J.B. Martin, Dr. Fountain and Dr. Rawls and was a school nurse for Dougherty High School in Albany for 14 years. She also kept books for their floor sanding business for many years.
Mrs. Shippey was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Raleigh White Baptist Church in the 1950s and the 1960s. She enjoyed cooking, working in the yard and square dancing. For many years, she and her husband were members of the Rafter Rockers square dance club in Albany and were also members of the Georgia State Square Dancers Association and Dixie Federation of Callers.
Mrs. Shippey is survived by her only child and his wife, Herbert and Sue Shippey of Tifton; two grandsons, Daniel and Philip Shippey of Tifton; two sisters, Carolyn Ward of Byron and Annie Lou Wells of Colquitt; two brothers, Earl Bailey of Watkinsville and Preston Bailey of Auburndale, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
