Frances Hobby Massengale
Frances Hobby Massengale, 61, of Sycamore, died Friday, Sept. 12, at Emory University Hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15 at Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sycamore.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Perry Funeral Homes.
A native of Turner County, Mrs. Massengale was the daughter of Warren Belton Hobby and Esther Nettie Wood Goddard. She was an employee of Centra Pak.
Mrs. Massengale is survived by her husband, Lowell T. Massengale of Sycamore; her children, James Carter of Dallas; Scott Carter of Dallas; Robin Strugill of Greenfield, Ind.; her sisters, Jean DeBorde of Ashburn; Cheryll Dennis of Mansfield; and five grandchildren.
Perry Funeral Home in Ashburn is in charge of arrangements.
Rev. William Garry “Doc” Tyson
DOERUN–The Rev. William Garry “Doc” Tyson, also known as “Papa,” 86, of Doerun, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at his residence. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Scott Tomlinson and the Rev. A.R. Wilburn will officiate.
The family will receive friends this afternoon beginning at 5 at Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester.
Born May 12, 1917 in Worth County, Mr. Tyson was the son of Dr. Gary Green Tyson and Mary Jane Willis Tyson. He was a lifelong resident of Worth County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Wingate Tyson, two grandsons, James Michael Tyson and Christopher Kevin Tyson; a brother, E.J. Tyson; and a sister, Rosa Lee Tyson Castleberry.
A retired farmer and civil service employee, Mr. Tyson became an ordained minister of the Baptist faith in 1956. He pastored many area churches including Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Bridgeboro Baptist Church, Evergreen Baptist Church, Isabella Baptist Church, Pine Forest Baptist Church, Mount Horeb Baptist Church and a Sunday-morning ministry at Kitty’s Flea Market.
Mr. Tyson is survived by his children, Christine Tyson Patterson of Doerun; Gary Green and Sandra Tyson of Fayetteville; and James Lumpkin and Jackie Tyson of Doerun; a sister, Ethel Tyson Ethridge of Moultrie; his grandchildren, Craig Patterson, Jennifer Patterson Applebaum, Todd Tyson, Tammy Tyson Brooks, Troy Tyson, Brad Tyson, and Jody Tyson; and seven great grandchildren.
Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester is in charge of arrangements.
Darlene Elizabeth Pope Blakeney
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –Darlene Elizabeth Pope Blakeney, 50, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003 at her residence. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Rutland Family Cemetery. The Rev. Carroll Rutland will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, at Bowen-Donaldson Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 9, 1953 in Tifton, Mrs. Blakeney was the daughter of the late Raymond E. Pope and Christine Welch Pope of Lenox. Mrs. Blakeney enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her husband, John Blakeney of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a daughter, Christie Thompson of Wake Forrest, N.C.; two brothers, Kenneth Pope and Rusty Pope, both of Tifton; two sisters, Carol Hurst of Chula, and Berry Searcy of Jacksonville, Fla.
