TIFTON — A woman has been hospitalized and another has died as a result of an altercation earlier this morning.

Tifton police officers responded to a report from a resident around 7:57 a.m. today directing them to a disturbance in a residence at 307 West 11th St. Once there, they found two women suffering from multiple injuries, though at this time, the cause of these wounds is unknown.

Both women were transported to Tift Regional Medical Center via EMS, where one succumbed to her injuries. The other has been reported as being in critical condition.

Officers have placed an adult male in custody following the incident, and have asserted that there is no active threat to the public. As of now, the case remains under active investigation, and city police have assured that they will provide more information as it is discovered.
