TIFTON — The City of Tifton is considering a budget amendment to address complaints of a mosquito issue in Tifton.

City council members discussed the possibility of making space in their budget to enlist the support of Astro Exterminating Services of Valdosta in responding to resident’s concerns in regard to controlling the mosquito population.

Acting city manager and chief financial officer Larry Lawrence explained that the exterminating company would spray every street in the city across a period of 8 months, for around $3300 a month.

Lawrence reported he had asked Adam Cobb, city utilities manager, to acquire a data sheet confirming the mosquito control spray Astro planned to employ was safe for the public.

The city council plans to discuss the proposal further during their upcoming Feb. 17 meeting.
