Man faces murder, other charges in Feb. 5 attack

TIFTON — A Tifton man faces a variety of charges in connection with a deadly attack the morning of Feb. 5.

Emmanuel Matt Uzowihe, 37, of Tifton, was taken into custody the morning of the attack in which two women were found wounded in a residence on 11th Street. One of the women later died from her injuries.

Monday evening, the Tifton Police Department released Uzowihe’s name and the list of charges he faces: felony murder, aggravated assault (three counts), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and criminal attempt to commit rape.

According to an earlier release from the TPD, a Tifton police officer was flagged down by a woman who told him of a disturbance that had just occurred. The complaint led the officer to 307 W. 11th St., where he discovered the women suffering from multiple wounds.
