TIFTON — A days after falling late to Veterans, the Tift County Blue Devils won their first of the year over former region rival Lee County Friday. Saturday, Tift walked off a win against Ola.
Tift won 12-4 over Lee and 2-1 over Ola to improve its record at 2-1. Tyler VanSumeren hit his second home run in as many games. Jake Spurlin smashed his first ever homer, which may still be orbiting in space.
The Blue Devils scored four in the top of the first. The score held until they added one more run in the fifth. Lee scored two, but the Devils countered with seven over the sixth and seventh frames.
Spurlin drove in three runs, VanSumeren and Sam Pritchard, two apiece. John Davis went 4-for-4. Will Pridgen delivered a double and triple.
Ryan Whitley went 4.1 innings in his first regular season start of 2025. He and VanSumeren each struck out three.
Versus Ola, Davis drove in the winning run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Thomas Pritchett was the winning run.
Neither team plated any runs until Ola tallied in the sixth.
Mac Brooks scored in the bottom half on a double by VanSumeren.
Landon Parrish had two of Tift’s five hits. Pridgen went 5.1 innings but the win went to Grayson Del Toro, who pitched 1.2 relief frames. Pridgen struck out six, Del Toro one.
Tift is set to travel to Veterans Tuesday before Baseball at the Beach this weekend.
